Cornus alba ‘Aurea’ is a deciduous shrub valued for its luminous golden-yellow foliage, which brings brightness and warmth to the garden from spring through autumn. The broad, softly textured leaves create a bold splash of colour in mixed borders, while in winter the plant reveals red stems, adding strong seasonal interest and structure when much of the garden is dormant. Its naturally bushy, spreading habit makes it an excellent choice for adding contrast, depth and year-round appeal to informal and contemporary planting schemes alike.
This dogwood thrives in full sun to partial shade and prefers moist, well-drained soil, though it is notably tolerant of heavier or wetter ground once established. It combines particularly well with plants that enhance its colour and seasonal character, such as Cornus alba ‘Sibirica’ for intensified winter stem colour or evergreen shrubs like Skimmia japonica for balance. Underplanting with spring bulbs or perennials such as Helleborus or Geranium creates a layered, dynamic display. To maintain the plant, prune hard in late winter or early spring, cutting stems back to a low framework to encourage vigorous new growth and the brightest possible stem colour for the following winter.
Supplied in approx. 6.5 litre containers.
