Although the Tulip Bulbs – Rembrandt Mix are named after famous and renowned artist Rembrandt, he very rarely painted tulips or any flowers for that matter. These Tulips are named because they are decorated by magnificent petals with a painterly strokes of red or yellow as if they had been pulled straight from a painting! Rembrandt famously immortalised these Tulips in his painting of his wife called ‘Flora’ in which she wears a wreath of flowers. The largest flower of them all is the gorgeous Rembrandt Tulip. Rembrandt lived and worked in Holland around the time that tulips first became all the rage there, particularly the ones with streaks and stripes of colour. These types of tulips were bought for huge sums of money during the so-called ‘Tulipmania’ period (1593–1637), making the Tulips a perfect addition to his painting.
