Pleioblastus auricomus is a dwarf bamboo grown for its exceptionally bright variegated foliage and elegant spreading habit. This low-growing evergreen bamboo forms dense clumps of narrow leaves striped in golden-yellow and green, creating a luminous effect throughout the year. Its graceful, arching stems and colourful foliage make it an excellent choice for adding texture, movement and year-round interest to shaded borders, woodland gardens and contemporary planting schemes.
Thriving in moist, well-drained soil in a very sunny position, this bamboo benefits from shelter from harsh winds to keep the foliage looking its best. Trim away any damaged or plain green shoots in spring to maintain its variegation and tidy appearance.
