Phormium Bronze Baby – New Zealand Flax

The best real dwarf variety of Phormium, Bronze Baby, is a unique evergreen with arching, sword-like leaves in rich bronze-red tones that bring year-round structure and colour to the garden. Its neat habit makes it ideal for smaller spaces in the garden and for mass plantings, a wonderfully versatile plant. With numerous 2-3ft (3-4ft on rich soils) arching leaves of rich bronze-purple, its dramatic foliage adds an architectural feel.
Originally native to New Zealand, this shrub fits perfectly into modern gardens, gravel schemes and coastal plantings. Pairing quite well with carex and hebe, plant in full sun in well-drained soil for a bold, textural display. Very low maintenance and drought-tolerant once established, ‘Bronze Baby’ is one of the best burgundy cultivars available!
