Nigella damascena ‘Persian Jewels Mix’ produces a dazzling blend of blue, pink, white and mauve flowers from early summer through to late summer. Set amongst finely divided foliage, the jewel-like blooms add vibrant colour and delicate texture to borders, cottage gardens and cutting patches. Attractive seed pods provide additional ornamental value later in the season.
Growing to around 45-60cm in height, love-in-a-mist thrives with minimal attention and readily self-seeds in favourable conditions. Regular watering during prolonged dry spells will help maintain flowering, while occasional deadheading can encourage further blooms. However, leaving some flowers to form seed pods provides valuable late-season interest and allows plants to reappear naturally the following year. Avoid overly rich soils, as this can encourage excess foliage at the expense of flowers. Plant in full sun and well-drained soil for the best performance. Pair with cosmos for a beautiful cottage garden display.
