Nigella damascena ‘Miss Jekyll Dark Blue’ is a classic cottage annual featuring rich, deep blue flowers floating above delicate fern-like foliage from early summer through to late summer. The striking blooms attract pollinators and are followed by attractive seed pods that are ideal for dried flower arrangements and seasonal displays.
Growing to around 45-60cm in height, Miss Jekyll Dark Blue thrives with minimal attention and readily self-seeds in favourable conditions. Regular watering during prolonged dry spells will help maintain flowering, while occasional deadheading can encourage further blooms. However, leaving some flowers to form seed pods provides valuable late-season interest and allows plants to naturally reappear the following year. Avoid overly rich soils, as this can encourage excess foliage at the expense of flowers. Plant in full sun and well-drained soil for the best performance. Pair with cosmos for a beautiful cottage garden display.
