Nicotiana Sylvestris – Flowering Tobacco

Commonly known as Woodland or Flowering Tobacco, Nicotiana sylvestris is a dramatic architectural plant admired for its towering stems and highly fragrant evening blooms. This statuesque variety produces large rosettes of broad, fresh green foliage topped with stems of elegant, long, pendulous white tubular flowers from mid-summer through to first frosts. The blooms release a rich fragrance in the evening, an intoxicating perfume, so be sure to plant near an evening seating area perhaps to enjoy this.
An excellent choice for moon gardens and cottage-style borders where its height and graceful habit create a wonderful focal point.
Thriving in fertile, moist but well-drained soil in a sunny or partially shaded position, Nicotiana sylvestris benefits from regular watering during dry periods and occasional deadheading to prolong flowering. Taller stems may require support in exposed areas.
Pair with dahlias, verbena and ornamental grasses for a layered display full of movement and scent. A spectacular plant for adding height, fragrance and exotic elegance to the garden.
