Microbiota decussata is a dense, prostrate coniferous shrub prized for its soft, feathery texture and exceptional resilience. Hugging the ground in a spreading carpet of finely layered, rich green foliage, it creates a graceful, flowing effect that gently softens edges and planting schemes. In winter, the foliage transforms to warm bronze tones, adding unexpected seasonal depth and interest just when the garden needs it most. Its low, architectural habit makes it particularly effective cascading over walls, tumbling through rockeries, or forming an elegant evergreen groundcover beneath taller shrubs.
Extremely hardy – as you might expect from a plant that hails from Siberia – Microbiota decussata thrives in full sun or partial shade and performs well in most well-drained soils.
