Large 5-6ft Climbing Rose Excelsa

The ‘Excelsa’ is a traditional and much-loved climbing rose, renowned for its profusion of small, rosette-shaped, crimson-red flowers. Blooming once in early to mid-summer, the vivid clusters create a striking, cascading effect against the plant’s glossy green foliage. With its arching, flexible canes, ‘Excelsa’ is ideal for training over arches, fences, pergolas, or even into trees.
This hardy climber thrives in well-drained, fertile soil and a sunny position, though it tolerates some shade. Minimal maintenance is needed, just prune after flowering to remove spent blooms and encourage healthy growth. ‘Excelsa’ pairs beautifully with white or pale pink climbers for a soft contrast or can be used on its own for a dramatic statement. Its vigorous growth and colourful blooms make it a favourite for cottage gardens and wild planting schemes.
