Hypericum ‘Tri-color’ is a bright, low-growing evergreen shrub prized for its uniquely variegated foliage, where soft green leaves are boldly splashed with golden yellow and delicately flushed pink, creating year-round interest. Its compact, spreading habit makes it an excellent choice for borders, ground cover or containers, bringing colour and texture even when other plants are out of season. In summer, small star-shaped yellow flowers appear, adding a cheerful contrast to the richly patterned leaves.
This evergreen thrives in a sunny to lightly shaded position and prefers moist, but well-drained soil, though it is adaptable and tolerant once established. It combines beautifully with plants that echo or contrast its foliage, such as Sedum Herbstfreude ‘Autumn Joy’ or low evergreen grasses like Carex oshimensis for softness. To maintain the plant, lightly trim after flowering to keep it compact and encourage fresh, colourful new growth, removing any plain green shoots to preserve the variegation.
