This rare variety is a lovely twist on the ordinary white-flowered form of Hydrangea quercifolia. From July to September, Hydrangea quercifolia ‘Amethyst’ has creamy-white, conical flowers that slowly transform to a rich plum red as they age. The unique flower colour is set against a background of handsome oak-like foliage that takes on purple and red tints in the autumn. Oak-leaved hydrangeas are resilient, low maintenance shrubs that require very little pruning and thrive in sun or light shade. They make excellent subjects for mixed borders and or woodland areas and established specimens are more drought tolerant than mophead types. Height: 2m (6.5ft). Spread: 1.8m (5.9ft).Useful links:How to grow hydrangeas
