Oak-leaved hydrangeas have plenty to offer: handsome foliage that delivers good autumn column and bold, long-lasting summer flowers. With Hydrangea quercifolia ‘Ruby Slippers’ the blooms are particularly large and change colour as they age. From early to midsummer, the flowers begin as large greenish-white panicles, transforming to pale pink and finally deepening to ruby-red. The conical flower measure up to 22cm. The large, deeply-lobed, oak-like leaves turn lovely shades of red and purple in the autumn. A tough and versatile deciduous shrub for mixed borders that offers multiple seasons of interest.
