Mophead hydrangeas are fabulous shrubs for partial shade, their soft, pillowy flower heads lifting dingy areas with bold blocks of colour. They’re perfect for shady containers, woodland areas or underplanting beneath a light tree canopy.Hydrangea macrophylla ‘Blue’ produces strong stems clothed in bright green, toothed leaves and bright blue flower heads from June to September. As with all macrophyllas varieties, an alkaline soil will produce more red-purple shades. Grow this variety in acid borders or containers of ericaceous soil to maintain the best blue colour. The skeletal seedheads persist long after the flowers have faded, providing continuous interest right through to winter. Height: 2m (6.5ft). Spread: 2.5m (8.2ft).Plant height and spread is seasonal therefore we list by pot size rather than a defined plant size. The height and spread of the plant delivered will vary depending on the season, meaning arrival images are an indication only.
