Hydrangea macrophylla ‘Blauer Zwerg’ is a compact yet show-stopping mophead variety known for its giant, football-sized flower heads in rich, vibrant blue. Blooming from mid-summer to early autumn, its bold clusters sit atop sturdy stems and are framed by lush, deep green foliage. Despite the name meaning “Blue Dwarf,” this variety produces impressively large blooms on a manageable, bushy plant—perfect for borders, containers, or small gardens.
To maintain its striking blue colour, plant in acidic, moist but well-drained soil in partial shade. Deadhead spent flowers and prune lightly in early spring. Pairs beautifully with ferns and astilbes.
