Commonly known as Foxtail Barley or Squirrel-tail Grass, Hordeum jubatum is a graceful ornamental grass loved for its soft, shimmering flower heads and naturalistic appeal. This airy deciduous grass forms elegant clumps of slender green foliage topped with feathery plumes that emerge pale green before maturing to soft pink and silver from summer into autumn. The flowing seed heads catch the light beautifully and sway in the breeze effortlessly, bringing movement, texture and a meadow-like feel to borders and prairie-style planting schemes.
Thriving in well-drained soil in a sunny position, Hordeum jubatum is relatively low-maintenance and drought-tolerant once established. Remove faded flower heads if self-feeding is not desired, and cut back old foliage in late winter or early spring to bring in new growth. Pair with echinacea and salvia for a relaxed, contemporary display. A superb ornamental grass for adding seasonal interest. A superb grass for adding softness, movement and natural beauty to the garden.
Supplied in approx. 1 litre containers.
