Euonymus Alatus ‘Blade Runner’ – Winged Spindle Fire Bush

Euonymus alatus ‘Blade Runner’ is a specially selected form of this special shrub with prominant corky ‘wings’ on the stems – hence the common name of Winged Spindle. The other common name, Fire Bush describes the scorching shades of autumn foliage, when they transition from summer greens to  brilliant scarlets and crimson reds. It is at this moment, round, reddish purple fruit also become apparent, they often persist for some time before opening to reveal orange seeds, adding yet a further element of interest to ‘Blade Runner’. With an upright to spreading habit, this shrub is easy to grow and care for, reaching around 1.5m tall in time. We would recommend planting this at the back of a mixed border to provide a screen for summer plants and much needed seasonal interest, but it is also a wonderful specimen plant. 
 
This shrub looks best in full sun but also grows well in partial shade. It is fully hardy so can thrive in exposed or sheltered gardens and is able to establish in any soil type or pH, as long as it is well-drained.
