Cotoneaster Horizontalis Variegata

Cotoneaster horizontalis ‘Variegata’ is a beautifully structured, low-growing shrub admired for its neatly variegated foliage edged in creamy white. The small, glossy green leaves create a fine, textured framework that looks elegant year-round, while subtle pink flowers in spring are followed by decorative red berries, adding seasonal interest and gentle colour contrast. Its spreading, layered habit makes it ideal for ground cover, wall training, or softening the edges of borders and pathways.
This cotoneaster thrives in a sunny position and prefers well-drained soil, where it will develop its best leaf colour and compact form. It combines particularly well with plants that complement its structure, such as Juniperus communis repanda ‘Green Carpet’ for cool-toned contrast or Sedum spurium ‘Coccineum’ for colour and movement. Spring bulbs such as Narcissus Tete a Tete can be woven through for added seasonal interest. To maintain the plant, lightly prune after flowering to keep its shape tidy and encourage fresh growth, removing any damaged or crossing stems as needed.
