Cornus florida is a beautifully ornamental deciduous tree or shrub, admired for its delicate spring display and rich seasonal colour. Yellow-tipped green flowers appear in May, surrounded by soft cream-pink flower bracts that create a wonderful layered floral effect. Curled mid-green leaves emerge in spring, turning a stunning deep red-purple in autumn.
Ideal for cottage, woodland and informal garden styles, this small conical plant is a superb specimen for a sunny position. It thrives in fertile, humus-rich, neutral to acid soil and combines well with azaleas, camellias and ferns. Plant in well-drained, humus-rich, neutral to acid soil and mulch annually to retain moisture and support healthy growth.
