Clematis Josephine is an award-winning variety with alluring soft pink blooms with flamboyant pompom centres. It is perfect for a sunny spot where its pretty colours are at their richest. It is one of the most popular varieties raised in the last 20 years, with the large double soft mauve-pink flowers appearing from June to September. If you have a shadier spot, the petals will take on a fascinating green tint.
This variety is superb for growing in patio containers or trained onto walls and fences, an arch or a trellis, reaching around 250cm tall, with a spread of around a metre. For best results, plant with the crown slightly below soil level in fertile, well-drained soil, keeping the roots cool and shaded while allowing the top growth to enjoy plenty of light. Regular watering during establishment and a mulch around the base will help maintain healthy growth and flowering.
