Clematis ‘Columella’ is a graceful spring-flowering clematis admired for its nodding, bell-shaped blooms that hang delicately along slender stems, creating a gentle, natural rhythm in the garden. In early April to June, flowers open in soft, refined tones with a subtle contrast at their centres, giving the plant an understated elegance that feels calm and timeless. Its light, airy habit allows it to thread beautifully through trellis, pergolas or informal supports, lending vertical interest without ever feeling heavy or dominant.
This clematis thrives in a bright but sheltered position, with its roots kept cool and shaded, and prefers moist, well-drained, fertile soil. It partners especially well with plants that enhance its subtle charm, such as climbing plants like Clematis Jackmanii or Lonicera periclymenum ‘Belgica’, which extend interest later in the season while remaining harmonious.
