Clematis alpina ‘Stolwijk Gold’ is an amazing deciduous climber valued for its unique combination of bright golden-yellow foliage and elegant nodding violet-blue flowers. Blooming in spring, the bell-shaped blooms create a beautiful contrast against the vibrant foliage, bringing colour and interest to trellises, fences, pergolas, and walls. As the season progresses, the attractive foliage continues to brighten the garden, while decorative seed heads add further ornamental appeal.
Growing to approximately 2–3 metres in height and 1–1.5 metres in spread, this hardy and easy-care clematis is ideal for adding vertical interest to smaller gardens and containers. Unlike many large-flowered clematis varieties, it requires very little pruning, with only light trimming after flowering to remove dead or overcrowded growth and maintain shape. Water regularly during dry periods, especially while establishing, and apply a balanced fertiliser in spring to encourage healthy growth and flowering. Plant in sun or partial shade with fertile, well-drained soil and shaded roots.
