Centranthus ruber ‘Albus’, commonly known as white valerian or ‘Snow Cloud’, is a light, airy perennial valued for its dense clusters of star-shaped white flowers above fleshy, mid-green leaves. Flowering generously from late spring through summer, it brings a relaxed, cottage-garden feel while also suiting more contemporary, naturalistic planting schemes thanks to its elegant, cloud-like blooms.
Thriving in full sun and free-draining soil, this easy-care plant is particularly well suited to gravel gardens, dry borders, and walls or slopes where drainage is sharp. Deadheading spent flowers encourages repeat blooming and prevents excessive self-seeding, while cutting back hard in autumn or early spring keeps plants tidy and vigorous. It pairs beautifully with Cyclamen hederifolium album, pink Salvia nemorosa and Campanula persicifolia ‘Alba’, which complement its delicate flowers and enhance its informal, airy character.
