Ceanothus Yankee Point – Californian Lilac

Ceanothus ‘Yankee Point’ is a low-growing, spreading evergreen shrub celebrated for its rich, glossy green foliage and its sprays of soft, powdery blue flowers that appear in late spring. The blooms are carried in gently rounded clusters, creating a sea of colour that contrasts beautifully with the dark leaves and brings a fresh, coastal feel to borders and banks.
This Californian lilac thrives in a sunny, sheltered position with well-drained soil and is especially effective on slopes, walls, or at the front of mixed borders where it can cascade naturally. It pairs well with drought-tolerant companions such as Lavandula angustifolia or Cistus varieties, which echo its relaxed habit and Mediterranean character. To maintain the plant, prune lightly immediately after flowering to keep it compact and tidy, avoiding hard cuts into old wood to ensure reliable regrowth and flowering.
