Carex comans ‘Phoenix Green’ is an especially handsome sedge that forms a dense mound of slender foliage with attractive bronze and copper tints developing as the seasons progress. The arching leaves create a soft, flowing appearance that adds texture, movement, and natural elegance to borders and containers throughout the year. During summer, subtle dark flower spikes emerge above the foliage, enhancing its understated charm.
A versatile choice for contemporary gardens, gravel planting, wildlife-friendly schemes, and patio displays, ‘Phoenix Green’ works beautifully alongside heucheras, ferns, salvias, and flowering perennials. Its graceful habit also makes it an excellent edging plant or ground cover in sunny or partially shaded locations. Plant in moist but well-drained soil and water during prolonged dry periods, particularly while establishing. Very little maintenance is required; simply remove any tired or damaged foliage by combing through the plant or lightly trimming in late winter or early spring. Container-grown specimens benefit from a light application of fertiliser in spring.
