Buddleja Alternifolia – Buddleia Butterfly Bush
£18.99
A large and graceful form of butterfly bush, Buddleja alternifolia, was introduced from China in 1915. Its profusion of soft lilac-pink flowers cloaks the stems in early summer. The small, honey-scented blooms are carried in dense clusters along last year’s growth, creating a gently cascading effect that feels light, airy, and wonderfully naturalistic, especially when the branches are allowed to sweep and drape freely.
This butterfly bush thrives in a sunny position with well-drained soil. It is particularly effective as a specimen shrub, on slopes, or trained informally against walls where its weeping form can be fully appreciated. It pairs beautifully with plants such as Philadelphus coronarius, Weigela florida ‘Bristol Ruby’, or Kolkwitzia amabilis, which complement its flowering season and enhance the soft, romantic character of the planting. Pruning should be carried out immediately after flowering, removing spent shoots to preserve next year’s blooms and maintain its distinctive architectural shape.
Supplied in approx. 2-3 litre containers.
